At the end of 2018 I decided to set up a home mini studio. I wasn’t too sure if I could do it. My studio is not the biggest place. It a really small space. I had done a some research and stumbled across a YouTube Video. It about doing a Studio Style Shoot in small spaces. The only the that I would need is to get the right size paper backgrounds for my space. I had the other equipment already studio flash, the stands and tethering equipment. First thing that I needed to do was get rid of my cheep sofa.
Ive ordered a few paper backgrounds white, black, sky blue, cherry red and pink. They are not the biggest roll of paper so I knew my limit due to the YouTube Video. I could only get 3/4 length to headshot Images. It wasn’t a big problem for me. First thing first was to actually do a shoot. I need to practise and try the set up out before hand. Lucky I have family that would help me out to test it all out.
Everything worked perfectly. Only thing I had left to do was get a colour checker for tethering. I booked in a couple of shoot of the models I have worked with before. I found it to be easier. At least I have a couple of images for the future to show that I can also shoot this style of portraits.
I was great to have music on and taking your time with each shot. Giving models feedback on the computer on the poses and expressions. Experience just worked perfectly. My advice is just try and do the best you can. You can shoot in small spaces. You just have to know your limits on what you can and can’t do.
Here are the images from the shoots I have done at the end of the 2018 and with some behind the scenes images.
